Important Update to Capital Care Health Centre

We are writing to let you know about an important change to Capital Care Health Centre.

Over the past few months, the Capital Care Trust Board has carefully considered the future of the practice, having faced increasing challenges maintaining a sustainable service in central Wellington. Dr Sam Murton has also recently been appointed Deputy Dean of the Medical School at Waikato University, which will significantly reduce her availability.

After much consideration, we have decided to work with Wellington Medical Group, a well-established organisation with 5 practices throughout the city that will ensure the ongoing provision of high-quality primary healthcare for our patients and support for our staff.

From 5 October 2026, the majority of the Capital Care team will be joining Wellington Medical Group.

They will be largely based at Thorndon Medical Centre, with Dr Ben Lockwood and Tamara Turnbull working at both Thorndon Medical Centre and Eastern Bays Health Centre. Dr Sam Murton will also be continuing to work occasionally at Thorndon Medical Centre in a supporting role.

Capital Care site will therefore close on Friday, 2 October. From the following week, your enrolment will transfer to Wellington Medical Group, ensuring continuity of your care.

By default, your existing enrolment and clinical records will be transferred to Thorndon Medical Centre. You do not need to do anything for this to happen, as this transfer will happen automatically.

However, Capital Care patients are also welcome to enrol at any of the following Wellington Medical Group practices, even if that practice is not currently accepting new patients:

Thorndon Medical Centre
Johnsonville Medical Centre
Eastern Bays Health Centre
Mānuka Health Centre
Whitby Doctors
If you would like to enrol at another Wellington Medical Group practice other than Thorndon Medical Centre, please let us know by replying to this email.

We are confident that Wellington Medical Group will continue to provide you with excellent care. We understand that changes like this can be unsettling, and we appreciate the trust you have placed in Capital Care over the years.

If you have an outstanding balance on your Capital Care account, we kindly ask that you arrange payment at your earliest convenience before the practice closes.
